Leadership Training Program

A Program for Campers Entering 10th Grade

Spring Lake Day Camp’s outstanding Leadership Training Program is for individuals entering 10th grade as of September. This popular program has consistently been successful, giving each LTP the unique dual opportunity to train to become a part of our staff while enjoying the social and developmental components of the program as a camper.

Our combination work-camp program enhances the camper’s summer by exposing them to every aspect of camping life. LTP trainees generally work for part of the day in a group of campers and spend the remainder of the day following their own program with their supervisor. Through hands-on experience and guidance from staff and supervisors, the LTPs become better prepared for any future work with children, in and out of a camp setting.

Each LTP is evaluated throughout the summer by the program’s supervisor and administrators to help provide the LTPs with the tools to be successful. Our LTP program cultivates leadership skills and enables LTP graduates to assume the responsibilities of a staff member the following summer. Spring Lake is dedicated to building a committed staff from within its camper population. When our LTPs are hired as a member of our SLDC team, they are expected to exemplify several core values — enthusiasm; a strong sense of responsibility; initiative; professionalism; and respect for the camp, its rules and regulations, campers, and administration – and the LTP program is a key component in instilling these values. We look forward to our LTPs making a positive difference in our campers’ lives.
