Our Junior Training Program has been a very popular summer experience for teens entering 9th grade and at least 14 years of age. This program gives this age group the unique dual experience of working alongside camp specialists in the many arts, athletics and adventure related areas for part of the camp day while enjoying the benefits of being a camper for the remainder of the day.
The JTPs choose activity areas in which they have an interest and they assist the specialists for the first few periods of a day, three days per week. While at the specialty areas, they work with various age groups, supporting the specialists in instruction and guidance with their projects and activities. For the remainder of their day, the JTPs engage in camper activities with their peers in a program tailored to their age group – from free swim to the Adventure Challenge areas, to Fine Arts, to Athletics and so much more.
These 9th graders also participate in all-camp activities such as Color War, Spirit Day and Carnival. In addition, they experience group activities and community service projects that promote team building, confidence development and leadership, as well as communication skills with children, peers and supervisors.
In addition to the in-camp program three days a week, the JTPs go on day trips 1-2 days each week throughout the summer. These trips are included in their program and tuition. (If the camper chooses not to go on a particular JTP trip, they do not come to camp that day, as the entire group and its supervisors will be out of camp). What an ideal summer experience for this age group!
Each JTP is evaluated throughout the summer by the program’s supervisor and administrators. Only those JTPs who successfully complete the JTP program are eligible to enter our Leadership Training Program.
The JTP program is available for 4 to 8 weeks enrollment during the summer, and the tuition price includes the one to two trips per week, transportation, lunch, and JTP shirts.
